We had three dates for our wedding thanks to Covid! Our first date was Sunday 24th May 2020, which became May 2021, and we then decided to move the date to July 2021. We got married at Wentbridge House Hotel, we had been engaged only a week before we were looking at venues. Wentbridge was the 4th or 5th we saw, and we knew immediately it was the one. The grounds are just beautiful, and I have always wanted to get married outside; thankfully the sun shone on the day despite a week of rain before!
We met in January 2016 on a night out in Barnsley and started talking the next day; we’ve been together ever since. In October 2018 we went to York for the weekend and Ben had a grand plan to propose at the top of York Minster- but I didn’t want to walk to the top! He altered his plan to propose over breakfast in bed, but we ended up going out that night and staying up til 3am so it was too late to order breakfast… thankfully he wasn’t to be swayed and he bought a McDonald’s breakfast and proposed in the room. I did think it was funny he wouldn’t take his coat of all the previous night- the ring had been in his pocket!
I knew I wanted a princess dress- who doesn’t want to be a princess for the day? Nora (style 69326) was the first dress I ever saw when I started my search and I loved it. I only visited two dress shops, and I bought my gown from Hoospadaisy Bridal in Huddersfield. The staff, especially Paula, were so helpful. She helped me in all my appointments and was always on the end of the phone and truly cared.
Ronald Joyce sent me the Nora dress to try on and I fell in love more than when I’d seen it online; the train, the 3D flowers, the embellishments made me feel like a real-life Disney princess. Twirling in the gown was such an amazing feeling.
We had a few minor hiccups on the day… our entertainment pulled out at 10am on the day, and the cake topper never arrived. But no one noticed the cake topper, and thanks to Facebook we had new entertainment within a few hours. The team at Wentbridge were fantastic, nothing was to much trouble.
Getting ready with my two bridesmaids, my Auntie and my Mum was amazing. My mum’s dress was also Ronald Joyce (style 991509), and @ebonyomakeup and @ellalouisehairstyling were amazing! But my favourite part was seeing my Dad for the first time and walking down the aisle together to Ben.
My advice to future brides is to just enjoy the day, it goes so fast. Enjoy every moment.
Our photographer was Kelliane Photographer and we are so happy with our photos.
