We wanted to get up close and personal with award winning designer Veni Infantino to hear how her passion for designing and fashion came about and what her daily routine looks like.
Did you always know you wanted to work in fashion?
Yes, I did actually. Always. Ever since I was a little girl. Literally all I did when I was about 8 or 9 was sew clothes with my grandmother.
Why did you decide to become a designer?
When I was at secondary school a teacher spotted my talent and applied on my behalf to go to fashion college, the University of Arts. There I absolutely fell in love with designing and really flourished. I was lucky enough to secure a job straight away.
What inspires your collections?
Traveling. When I travel I see such a variety of interesting colours, colour schemes and an array of shapes and unique designs. Also, when I do designer days, I get to see real brides and how their figures differ. It really inspires me to think outside the box. I really listen to what these women want and I ask myself how can I make it work not only for that specific bride but others as well.
What’s the most important thing you do when it comes to designing a new collection?
I like to do as much research as I possibly can. I make sure I understand my market and who I am designing for. Those two things are really the key for me and once I understand that I can get right into my sketching mode. I literally sketch for days - it’s like hibernating!
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
Due to working with so many different countries across varying time zones, like the Far East and New York, as soon as I wake up, even while I’m in bed, before having my much needed coffee, I check and reply to various emails.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
I love Rome and New York. I really look forward to going to those cities.
What about your interests outside of work?
I always say to my kids if you find a job you love you never have to do a day’s work in your life. I’ve been very fortunate in that I have found that in my life and so to be honest the one thing I love other than my job is spending time with my family.
Who are your favorite designers outside of bridal?
Ellie Saab is probably my favorite designer. Zuhair Murad is another that is also up there for me.
