We got married on 25th June 2021 at Sherbrooke Castle a beautiful venue in the south side of Glasgow. It is an amazing 4-star baronial hotel built in 1896 and handcrafted in red sandstone.
Greg and I met in a nightclub in Glasgow city centre called ‘Shimmy’ on a Christmas night out back in 2015. We get along as we are opposites; he’s quiet and reserved whereas I am loud and boisterous, you can’t get a word in when I’m speaking and on our first date I don’t think Greg got a word in, but he had kind eyes and that’s what sealed the deal.
We are both on the same page with families as we are both very family orientated. He proposed in 2018 on a holiday to Dubai and had picked out the ring 3 weeks before the holiday and asked my dad for permission. He proposed at the ‘One and Only Royal Mirage Hotel’ where he had organised a beach dinner with rose petals and a steak dinner it was amazing!
We knew straight away that we wanted a very Scottish wedding with bagpipes and kilts as we love our Scottish heritage and Greg, I must say looks fantastic in a kilt! I wanted a modern yet classic wedding dress and bridesmaids due to being only being 25 years old when getting married.
I found the planning quite stressful due to covid and being pregnant while on the 6-month run up to wedding. I felt because of covid nothing could be set in stone and it was very hard to visualise our wedding as we didn’t know which restrictions would be in place at the point of the wedding. I always wanted a stately home/castle wedding with beautiful photos that could be taken outside.
I only visited two wedding dress shops. All of the dresses I tried on before the one I chose were a similar design and material as I was adamant I would like what I thought.
I picked the Ronald Joyce Donata gown style 69515 from bought from Bijoux Bridal. I picked this gown as I had seen it from the back on Bijoux’s Instagram and was intrigued to see what it was like. The lady in shop thought I wouldn’t like it because it was so different from what I had tried on previously, but once I had it on my sister and mum were like this is the one! Also, my birthday is in June so a pearl is my birthstone so felt it was a rather sentimental dress to me.
Bijoux bridal was amazing! I had the best shopping experience Lynn who helped me made me feel so comfortable and made me feel like it was more than just a shopping experience!
Our wedding day was more than I could of ever hoped for, the venue staff especially. William made sure my day was amazing literally could not fault any of my vendors at all.
My favourite part of my wedding was when I got my dress on and showed my mum, dad and bridesmaids because I’ve never felt more beautiful and confident in my life.
The meal and reception turned out better than I had every hoped as obviously due to covid there was restrictions in regard to music and dancing, however our busker that we hired for dinner and reception made it amazing! He is called Gregor Coleman. Also, the venue staff made everyone feel at ease and made it feel like a normal wedding.
We had a surprise gender reveal for our baby which is due 25th October during the speeches. Greg and I kept this a surprise from everyone before wedding and Greg had the announcement as part of his speech; we brought out a gender reveal balloon and both our mothers had the privilege of popping the balloon to find out gender! Everyone loved it and we are having a BOY!
My top tips for brides-to-be would be not to stress and worry too much about your day especially with Covid. Your day will be amazing as everyone wants you to have the best day possible and the hype you feel marrying the person you love makes your day amazing from start to finish.
Our photographers were husband and wife team The Gibsons –they are amazing at their job made us feel so comfortable on the day and listened to what we were looking for with our photos.
